Mack T. Hines, a well-known South Carolina Representative and Florence native, passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday as confirmed by the chairman of the Florence County Democratic Party.
Isaac Wilson spoke highly of Rep. Hines, stating that he tirelessly advocated for the people of Florence and Marion counties during his tenure from 1995-2005. Wilson acknowledged Hines’ dedication and commitment to public service, which served as an inspiration to many.
According to the South Carolina State House, Hines obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Allen University in 1969, followed by a Bachelor of Divinity from Morris College School of Religion. He initiated his career as a teacher in Florence 1 School District, where he dedicated 12 years of his life.
In 2005, Hines was honored by the South Carolina General Assembly with a resolution, in recognition of his achievement of receiving a doctorate of ministry from Hood Theological Seminary.
Wilson expressed her sorrow over the loss of the individual and urged everyone to remember the impact he made on the community and state. She emphasized the importance of carrying on his legacy of service and allowing his contributions to guide them towards a better future. In closing, Wilson offered her heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this trying time.
