Local woman wanted in connection with $1.5 million Medicaid scheme arrested in Texas

After months of evading capture, a Dayton woman accused of embezzling $1.5 million from Ohio Medicaid has been apprehended in Texas.

Janay Corbitt, a resident of Dayton, was apprehended by authorities on Thursday evening at a bus station in Dallas. The arrest was made by the police and U.S. Marshals, as confirmed by Attorney General Dave Yost.

On May 14th, a Franklin County Grand Jury indicted Corbitt on eight felony charges. These charges include engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, aggravated theft of $1.5 million or more, and identity fraud against a person in a protected class.

Corbitt reportedly stole other people’s identities in order to open and manage two fraudulent behavioral health counseling firms in the Dayton region.

Investigators believe Corbitt also stole the identities of other licensed counselors and used their credentials to bill Medicaid for services that never happened.

In 2019, a separate Medicaid fraud case found Corbitt guilty of theft.

The Medicaid program ordered her to pay $204,412.02, but she has only paid $6,255 so far. Her conviction resulted in the termination of her Medicaid eligibility.

Yost stated that they are striving to get Corbitt back to Ohio.
