Judge Lina Hidalgo ties the knot in intimate ceremony, gears up for destination wedding

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo recently got married to David James in a small and intimate ceremony at the River Oaks Garden Club in Houston.

Hidalgo marries in intimate Houston ceremony

Judge Mike Engelhart recently signed the marriage license of the couple during a ‘paper wedding’ on October 30, officially making them legally married in Texas.

The couple deliberately kept the ceremony low-key, opting not to exchange vows or rings. Instead, a small gathering of friends came together for what Hildago referred to as “the part of the marriage akin to a contract.”

Mayor Whitmire’s deleted comment draws attention

Before the ceremony, the couple garnered attention for a different matter. Houston Mayor John Whitmire had shared a comment on social media about Hidalgo’s now-husband, David, which has since been deleted. The comment stated, “Wonderful. He definitely gives off a nerdy vibe.”

According to Whitmire’s team, the intention behind the act was purely lighthearted and without any ill will. The mayor expressed his best wishes to the couple and swiftly moved forward.

In a since-deleted comment, Whitmire playfully teased Hidalgo about her fiancé, saying, “Sure looks like a nerd.”

Hidalgo shared with KPRC 2 that, “Regardless of whether he intended it as a joke or intended it to be publicly posted, he made the right decision by deleting it. I must admit, both David and I are nerds, and I am excited to marry him.”

Couple plans destination wedding for December

Hildago has big plans for a more extravagant celebration on December 1st, where they will have a formal wedding overseas, even though they have already legally tied the knot.

They are currently reveling in the happiness that comes with embarking on this thrilling new phase of their lives.
