When Donald Trump asked JD Vance to be his running mate, he told his seven-year-old son to “shut the hell up.”
During the “Full Send Podcast” on Friday, Vance, who is 40 years old, shared a story about when he was announced as Trump’s running mate last month at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Vance revealed that Trump called him just a few minutes before the public announcement.
During a recent appearance on a political podcast that frequently features conservative guests, Vance shared that his seven-year-old son was accompanying him in the hotel room. He went on to mention that his son is currently obsessed with Pokémon cards and is going through a phase where he can’t get enough of them. Vance seemed proud of his son’s interests and enthusiasm for the popular trading card game.
As he relayed the story, he recounted how his son was attempting to engage him in a conversation about Pikachu while he was on the phone with none other than Donald Trump. He requested his son to refrain from speaking for just half a minute, acknowledging the significance of the call. “This is the most crucial phone call of my life. Kindly allow me to take it,” he pleaded with his son.
Since 2014, Vance has been happily married to his wife Usha. Together, they are proud parents to three beautiful children: Ewan, who is seven years old, Vivek, who is four years old, and Mirabel, who is two years old.
After being labeled as “weird and creepy” by several Democrats, Vance has responded to the criticism. Recently, a video from 2021 has resurfaced in which Vance referred to women who have not given birth as “childless cat ladies” who want to make the country miserable. The comments have faced strong pushback, including from public figures like Jennifer Aniston and Kerstin Emhoff, the ex-wife of Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff.
Senator Vance expressed his belief in 2021 that parents should be granted more power when casting their votes. He has also voiced his concerns about the declining birth rates, which he considers a “civilizational crisis” primarily caused by a “childless left.” Furthermore, in the following year, Vance advocated for a complete nationwide ban on abortion.
According to a report by The Independent, the senator has received the lowest polling among any GOP vice presidential candidate soon after the RNC since the 1980s. Alyssa Griffin, who served as Trump’s former White House campaign manager, has labeled the senator as “a disaster.”
This week, the poor polling results were seized upon by Democratic rivals.
The DNC issued a statement on Monday, stating that JD Vance is further dragging down the already troubled Republican Party. The statement read, “As if the Republican Party needed another dumpster fire of their own creation, Trump and Republicans up and down the ballot are getting dragged even further down by JD Vance. Vance is making history as the most disliked VP nominee post-convention that our country has seen in decades.”
As for Harris, the current Democratic nominee, she is in a tight race with Trump. Following Biden’s exit from the race, the initial polls indicate that Harris has successfully garnered support from Democrats. Based on the average of four polls, Harris currently stands at 43.5 percent while Trump is at 44.8 percent.
