A four-month-old baby survived a deadly rollover crash on November 11 near Southeast 29th Street and I-35. The baby’s mother, 36-year-old Talisa Doonkeen, tragically lost her life in the accident.
Doonkeen’s aunt, who had raised her from a young age, explained that Talisa suffered from narcolepsy and had an episode just before the crash.
“I thought she was at the hospital, and she never made it to the hospital,” said Alfreda Doonkeen. “So, I asked the policeman, I said, ‘Well, where’s my daughter?’ And he was very gentle about it. He said, ‘The Medical Examiner’s.'”
Doonkeen’s baby girl suffered a skull fracture and a broken femur but is now recovering at home with family.
Another driver involved in the crash was hit but thankfully not severely injured.
Doonkeen’s aunt praised her niece for always making sure her daughter was safely secured in her car seat.
“Talisa was very adamant, and she didn’t just go over in a hurry,” she said. “She took her time, ten minutes, to properly strap the baby in and ensure it was done the right way.”
Doonkeen’s family is raising funds to support her daughter and is also requesting donations to Jesus House OKC, an organization close to Talisa’s heart.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Smith & Kerneke, located near Northwest 23rd Street and North Classen Boulevard.
