According to Indianapolis police, a man who was already in custody for a triple shooting that resulted in the death of one individual has been apprehended for another unrelated homicide.
On Thursday, authorities arrested 26-year-old Gerald Hatcher in connection with a homicide investigation that occurred on the south side of the city in May.
A vehicle off the road and into a yard was reported to Indianapolis Southwest District officers at around 3:30 p.m. on May 6 in the 900 block of West Stop 11 Road, as per a social media post.
Upon investigation, authorities discovered that the victim, a young man named Yasar Jamal Oliver Burnett Jr. who was only 25 years old, had been fatally shot while inside his vehicle.
It is believed by investigators that the car had collided at the junction of Railroad Street and West Stop 11 Road before ultimately coming to a halt in the front yard of the house.
After conducting its investigation, the Marion County Coroner’s Office has concluded that the cause of death was a homicide.
In April, Hatcher was taken into custody for a fatal shooting that occurred in an apartment complex. The incident resulted in the death of a 19-year-old, Ivionte Campbell, and left two others with aggravated assault injuries. Hatcher was already in police custody for this crime.
The final charging decision will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office upon reviewing the case.
