IMPD: 17-year-old dies in accident after police pursue car full of armed juveniles

A tragic incident has occurred in Indianapolis as a 17-year-old lost their life in a car crash that happened shortly after the police discontinued their pursuit of the vehicle the teenager was in. The police were investigating a group of armed teenagers when they stopped chasing the car, which unfortunately led to the fatal accident.

On Sunday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received a call to investigate a group of young males who were seen flaunting firearms in the downtown area. As officers were on their way to the scene, they received information that the juveniles had stowed away the guns inside a parked car.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers initiated a pursuit on foot to catch the group of teenagers. Although one male juvenile was apprehended and subsequently released, the remaining members of the group were not located.

At the Real Time Crime Center of IMPD, analysts observed a person who was already prohibited from owning firearms getting behind the wheel of a parked vehicle while carrying a gun. Accompanying the individual were two other minors, one of whom was identified as 17-year-old Terryoun Mays.

According to IMPD, after leaving the downtown area, responding officers tried to pull over the car. Even though the driver initially stopped and pulled over, he failed to comply with further commands and eventually drove away.

According to IMPD, the officers kept tailing the vehicle until they lost track of it, leading to the termination of the chase. On Monday, the department confirmed that the officers subsequently drove to the side of the road and came to a complete stop.

IMPD reported that within three minutes of the chase, officers discovered the suspect’s vehicle had crashed and flipped over on Brill Road’s 2600 block. The driver and two passengers, including Mays, sustained severe injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Marion County Coroner has confirmed on Monday morning that Mays, a 17-year-old passenger in the car, has succumbed to his injuries.

Immediately after the crash, accident investigators were summoned by IMPD to look into the matter. Upon searching the car, police discovered two firearms, a drum-style magazine, and various bullets.

IMPD has not yet released any further information at this time. Rest assured, as soon as more details become available, this article will be promptly updated.
