A 34-year-old man from Guatemala, who is residing in the Orlando area without legal documentation and using a false identity, has admitted his guilt in a series of serious offenses. These crimes include conspiracy, firearms trafficking, selling firearms without a license, and possessing firearms while being in the country unlawfully.
Between 2023 and 2024, Sune-Giron, a 34-year-old individual, was involved in an international gun smuggling ring, as stated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. His role within the operation was to recruit individuals, referred to as “straw purchasers,” who would purchase firearms on his behalf. These purchases included a variety of weapons such as Glocks, rifles, and AK-47s, and were made from licensed gun dealers located throughout Florida.
He and his partners smuggled these firearms out of the country after purchasing them, with destinations including the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Throughout this time, they successfully trafficked thousands of guns, and some of these weapons were later connected to various crime scenes.
Law enforcement agencies sprang into action on April 18, 2024. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Homeland Security Investigations carried out raids on three residences in the Orlando area. During the search of Sune-Giron’s residence, authorities uncovered a staggering cache of more than 50 firearms, ammunition, money counters, and approximately $16,000 in cash.
Sune-Giron was residing in the United States unlawfully under an assumed identity when the raid occurred.
The ATF, Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office conducted a comprehensive investigation that led to this case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Diego F. Novaes and Noah P. Dorman are handling the prosecution. Future court dates are yet to be determined.
