HPD suspects the 12-year-old girl may have snuck out of her home before being discovered dead in a creek

Officials are currently conducting an investigation into the death of a young girl whose body was discovered in a creek on the north side of the city early Monday morning.

During an evening press conference, Houston Police Department investigators and Mayor John Whitmire revealed that they have reason to believe that the girl had snuck out of her home around 10 p.m. on Sunday night. It’s worth noting that the girl had not been reported missing at the time.

At approximately 6 a.m., officials were able to confirm that a young victim, suspected to be 12 years old, was discovered near a creek situated in the 400 block of West Rankin Road.

During the press conference, acting police chief Larry Satterwhite expressed his concern regarding the abduction of an innocent child. He stated that they firmly believe that someone committed this heinous act and urged the public to come forward and assist them in their investigation.

Whitmire expressed his frustration about the presence of hazardous felons wandering the streets of Houston, stating that it makes him feel angry.

According to HPD, they are currently examining surveillance footage as part of their investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the case. They have stated their belief that foul play may be involved and are actively following up on leads.

The condition of the girl’s body remains undisclosed by the police. However, the medical examiner’s office is in the process of officially identifying the victim. Both Satterwhite and Whitmire have communicated with the girl’s mother regarding the incident.

Satterwhite expressed deep sorrow, stating that the little girl’s family is also devastated by her passing. “Of course, she is devastated. Her family is devastated. This little girl is gone,” Satterwhite said.

If you have any information related to the girl’s death, the authorities urge you to get in touch with Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

During a police briefing in Houston, Mayor Whitmire made a rare appearance following the discovery of a 12-year-old girl’s body in a creek on the northside of the city.
