HOUSTON – Wishing all the fathers out there a very Happy Father’s Day! Today promises to be a bright and sunny day with temperatures soaring up to the mid-90s. However, the real feel temperatures might go over the triple-digit mark. Therefore, it is essential to keep yourself hydrated and take regular breaks indoors where the air conditioning is on.
The upcoming week is set to bring about some significant changes.
The southwestern Gulf of Mexico is currently being monitored by the National Hurricane Center due to an area that has a 70% chance for development. If this area does develop, it may potentially become the first tropical system of the season.
Starting Monday and continuing through Thursday, SE Texas will experience a plume of tropical moisture that will dominate the skies. Development aside, this weather event is expected to bring about significant changes in the region’s weather patterns.
The coastal region is in for a bout of heavy rainfall, with the possibility of a total of 8 to 11 inches.
Cities located along the I-10 route, including Houston, are predicted to experience a total of 5 to 8 inches of precipitation. Meanwhile, cities situated to the northwest of Houston are expected to receive 2 to 4 inches of rainfall.
Possible hazards such as dangerous seas, high rip currents, and coastal flooding may occur alongside the heavy rainfall.
Next week, the offshore seas are expected to reach heights of over 10 feet, making it unsafe to swim at the beaches.
