HOUSTON, Texas — Elvis Muñoz, a Houston man recovering from severe injuries after being shot multiple times by his then-girlfriend, is speaking out as his alleged assailant, Alexys Pinto, is released on a significantly reduced bond.
The incident occurred near 288 and Airport Boulevard, where Muñoz was lured to a wooded area under the guise of watching the sunset. The situation escalated as Pinto allegedly shot him until the gun was empty, leaving Muñoz with critical injuries to his chest, intestines, and hands.
Despite undergoing multiple surgeries, Muñoz now faces the emotional burden of Pinto’s release. Initially held on a $75,000 bond, Pinto’s bond was reduced to $10,000, allowing her release under conditions including an ankle monitor and orders to avoid contact with Muñoz and his family.
Muñoz’s sister, Ana Fernandez, expressed outrage over the judicial decision, stating, “I have no peace in life right now.” She criticized the leniency shown toward Pinto, who is facing charges of aggravated assault, and highlighted the fear and frustration the family continues to endure.
The case has sparked broader concerns about bond practices and protections for survivors of violent crimes. Pinto’s next court appearance is scheduled for January.
