Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed his condolences after the passing of former president Jimmy Carter, who lived to the remarkable age of 100.
In his statement, Abbott expressed his condolences to the late Rosalynn Carter, the former First Lady who passed away in 2023 at the Carter family home in Plains, Georgia.
In a statement released on Sunday, Gov. Abbott expressed his gratitude to Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, for his dedicated service. He also extended his prayers and condolences to the entire Carter family. However, there was an error in the statement as Abbott mistakenly offered condolences to Jimmy Carter’s late wife, whose funeral he had already attended on November 29, 2023.
In a heartfelt message, we extend our prayers and sincere condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
Governor Abbott’s complete statement is as follows:
Cecilia and I join millions of Americans across the country in grieving the loss of former President Jimmy Carter. Our nation’s greatness as a beacon of freedom and opportunity is due, in large part, to the dedicated leadership of our fearless chief executives. President Carter, as the 39th President of the United States, has played a crucial role in guiding our nation through both the best and the worst of times. We are forever grateful for his service. President Carter’s life was defined by selfless dedication to the American people. As a husband, father, naval officer, governor, and Nobel prize winner, he leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. His absence will be deeply felt by many. During this difficult time, Cecilia and I offer our prayers and heartfelt condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family.
Abbott expressed his condolences to the entire Carter family in an updated statement posted on X.
