Governor Kathy Hochul traveled to the North Country on Tuesday, beginning in Canton, to thank first responders following Friday’s flooding.
She met with elected officials and Canton Fire Department members.
Hochul complimented the emergency personnel for “their hard work and talent.”
According to the governor, changing weather is the “new normal,” and this summer has been particularly harsh in the North Country. She’s impressed with how St. Lawrence County handled the recent storm.
“You should see the photographs I saw of what the damage looked like just a few days ago and how those roads are already back to normal and operational.” “That is an incredible effort by our local highway departments, the state DOT, and others who stepped up,” Hochul stated.
The governor spent time in Canton, thanking village fire department volunteers and praising all volunteers for risking their lives to help neighbors in need.
