A woman in Texas has been indicted by a grand jury on Thursday for allegedly attacking her former boyfriend in a shooting incident that resulted in him being hospitalized for several weeks. The victim has now come forward to share his story.
Alexys Pinto, 23, faced legal trouble when she was arrested in September. She was charged with aggravated assault of a family member in connection to the non-fatal shooting of her then-boyfriend, Elvis Muñoz. The details were obtained from Harris County court records, which were reviewed by HuffPost. However, Pinto was recently released after a judge decided to lower her bond from $75,000 to $10,000.
Muñoz expressed his concern to local CBS affiliate KHOU, stating that he fears she may want to return and take action.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by HuffPost, Muñoz, a mechanic, informed the police that on September 5th, while he was at home with Pinto, he received a vehicle to work on from a client.
Shortly after the client parked their car in his driveway, Pinto confronted Muñoz. According to Muñoz’s complaint, Pinto was visibly angry and became physically aggressive while he attempted to pacify her. At one point, Muñoz claimed that Pinto even kicked their dog forcefully.
During the argument, Pinto requested that Muñoz take her to a romantic spot where they had previously enjoyed watching the sunset together. Muñoz questioned her repeatedly about her reason for wanting to go there, but she persisted in her request.
According to the police report, Muñoz stated that he drove them to the area as requested. However, as soon as he pulled onto the road, Pinto suddenly ran out of the truck. Muñoz immediately gave chase, calling out for her to return. Once he caught up with her, she reportedly unleashed a string of profanities at him.
She expressed her skepticism, stating, “You really expect me to go deer hunting in this area?” according to the complaint.
Muñoz was left perplexed and sought clarification from Pinto regarding her statement. However, before he could fully comprehend the situation, a sudden gunshot echoed through the air.
Muñoz suffered gunshot wounds to his hand and chest, as stated in the complaint. He remembered Pinto holding a black gun after that.
Pinto then turned to Muñoz and apologized, saying, “I didn’t intend to harm you like that. My shots weren’t accurate enough!” as mentioned in the complaint. He stood above Muñoz and aimed the gun at his face, but instead, he shot his hand, failing to deliver a fatal blow.
Muñoz recalled the terrifying moment when he woke up to find a gun pointed at his head. He vividly remembers the chilling sight of the person holding the weapon, seemingly content and satisfied.
According to the complaint, Muñoz informed the police that he repeatedly requested Pinto to call an ambulance. In response, she allegedly uttered, “I didn’t mean to do you like this, it was supposed to be quick!”
During an interview with NBC affiliate KPRC, Muñoz revealed that he made every possible effort to persuade Pinto to seek assistance. He even went as far as promising to state to the police that he had no knowledge of who had shot him.
Muñoz pleaded with his partner to call for an ambulance, expressing his love for her and his desire to continue building a life together. He desperately tried to persuade her to understand the gravity of the situation, emphasizing his hopes of growing as a couple and starting a family. “Told her that I loved her, and I still wanted to be with her, I wanted to still grow with her, have children with her, and just basically trying to get into her head to convince her to help me,” Muñoz recounted to KPRC. He was on his knees, begging her to take action and call for medical assistance.
According to the complaint, after that, Muñoz and Pinto returned to Muñoz’s truck and headed to a gas station nearby. The complaint refers to surveillance footage which showed Pinto quickly exiting the truck and engaging in a conversation with the store clerk, while Muñoz remained seated in the passenger seat, clutching his abdomen.
Muñoz underwent multiple surgeries and spent over a month in the hospital after the attack, as stated in a fundraiser organized by his sister.
“In the GoFundMe page, the sister expressed her thoughts, stating that each day presents us with fresh obstacles to overcome.”
In an interview with KPRC, Muñoz shared that he remains uncertain about the motive behind Pinto shooting him. However, he took a moment to contemplate the way he was treated throughout their three-year relationship.
“I have always made it a priority to take care of her to the best of my abilities. There were times when I would go without eating just so that she could have a satisfying meal,” Muñoz disclosed in an interview. “She would often exhibit jealousy and control, isolating me from my loved ones. Moreover, she has a tendency to hold onto grudges.”
According to court records, Pinto was arrested by the police on September 17. Additionally, the judge granted Muñoz a protective order in relation to the case. Despite this, an attorney who is listed as Pinto’s legal representative did not respond to an email from HuffPost regarding the allegation.
