For killing Tina Kelley at Jeep Weekend on Crystal Beach in May 2023, Raymond Bernard Borden Jr. received a jail term.
A Galveston County jury sentenced Borden, 49, on Wednesday to 99 years in prison plus an additional 10 years for committing DWI for the third or more times.
A civilian reported being rear-ended by a maroon Dodge pickup that fled the scene on the morning of May 21, 2023, prompting Galveston County Sheriff’s deputies to flag down the vehicle. After finding the car, deputies were able to identify Borden as the driver. Borden was arrested and charged with DWI after a DWI investigation. Inside the truck, deputies discovered Kelley’s belongings, including her wallet and purse.
After her daughter voiced concerns, sheriff’s deputies visited Kelley’s house five days later to perform a welfare check. Kelley had been shot numerous times and was found dead. Investigators found that Borden had been driving the vehicle when he was arrested, and that Kelley’s truck was missing.
Additionally, an investigation showed that Borden had spent shell casing in his pocket at the time of his arrest, as well as victim blood on his shoes and money. Authorities also discovered the murder weapon in the car Borden was driving.
According to the testimony of Assistant District Attorney Brianna Stark and Chief Assistant District Attorney Ricque Davis during the trial, Borden had a blood alcohol content of 0.314 at the time of his arrest, which was more than three times the legal limit. Kelley was shot eight times without apparent cause, according to the prosecution. Borden stated he had no recollection of what happened that evening, while acknowledging he was a heavy drinker.
After less than an hour of deliberation, the jury found the defendant guilty of murder and third-degree or higher DWI.
