Tom Homan, the individual chosen by Donald Trump as the future “border czar,” expressed his opinion on Democratic Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s decision to defy the president-elect’s mass deportation plans. Homan stated that he believed Wu’s actions were not intelligent.
In response to Wu’s refusal to cooperate with Trump’s efforts to address illegal immigration, Homan, the former acting director of ICE, expressed his strong opinion to Newsmax, stating that Wu should “step aside” and allow the operation to proceed.
In an interview with local news station WCVB’s “On the Record” on Sunday, the president-elect made a bold promise to carry out the largest mass deportation of undocumented immigrants ever witnessed in history once he assumes office again. Wu expressed concerns about Boston’s lack of cooperation with these efforts, which he believes pose a threat to everyone’s safety due to the widespread fear they generate and the significant economic impact they can have.
Wu’s office and the Donald Trump transition team have been contacted by Newsweek for comment via email outside of regular office hours.
Boston, one of the sanctuary cities in Massachusetts, has taken a strong position on limiting or denying cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Wu’s stance further strengthens Boston’s existing Trust Act, which prevents Boston police from detaining or arresting individuals solely for immigration enforcement purposes. However, it still allows for police collaboration with ICE on criminal investigations, such as cases related to human trafficking.
“So, either Wu helps us or she gets out of the way because we are determined to get it done,” Homan confidently stated. “There’s a clear line that they cannot cross. I suggest she familiarizes herself with Title 8, United States Code 1324 III, which explicitly prohibits harboring or concealing illegal aliens from federal law enforcement officers.”
“He added that while they may not be able to cooperate, there are certain laws in place that they cannot cross, and he hopes she won’t cross them.”
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has firmly stated that the state police will not, under any circumstances, participate in Trump’s mass deportation operations. She has made a resolute promise to utilize every available means to safeguard the residents of Massachusetts.
During an interview with Fox News, Homan issued a warning to Democratic state and local governments who had stated their refusal to cooperate with Trump’s illegal immigration plans.
“We’re not here to play games. If you’re not willing to collaborate with us, then step aside. We are determined to make it happen,” he exclaimed. “Instead of deploying a mere 100 individuals to Boston, we’ll double the number and send 200 agents. We won’t rest until the mission is accomplished.”
On Monday, Trump expressed his intention to utilize the military in order to execute his large-scale deportation plans.
In response to a post from Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, on Truth Social, Trump enthusiastically affirmed, “TRUE!!!” Fitton had mentioned that the president-elect was ready to take decisive action by declaring a national emergency and utilizing military assets to address the issue of mass deportation in response to the Biden administration’s immigration policies.
