Dump trucks have targeted residents in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. A Florida man is accused of stealing $1.2 million worth of heavy-duty trucks. The theft caused financial difficulty for both families and businesses.
Some families and small businesses rely on their dump trucks for a living. Therefore, the theft of their rig leaves them facing debt and financial difficulties.
Olansy Marrero, 40, of Duval County, Florida, reportedly stole $1.8 million worth of equipment. Police said he stole at least eight trucks from South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
Investigators discovered a stolen dump truck at a business in the 4700 block of Hulbert Avenue. The location is where they discovered Marrero had changed the truck’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
According to Fox 13 News, police officers secured search warrants for the property and two other addresses associated with the business. They discovered eight stolen trucks from 20023 and 2025.
The vehicles belonged to others who utilized the company’s parking services on the premises. It is also necessary to undertake routine maintenance.
Marrero was charged with three counts of grand theft of $100,000 or more, criminal mischief of $1,000 or more, possession of a VIN plate, possession of a motor vehicle with a VIN plate, sale or possession of a vehicle with an altered number, tampering with physical evidence, operating a chop shop, and bringing contraband into a detention center.
These thefts had an impact on families and employees and caused delays in construction projects. Businesses couldn’t earn money using their dump trucks.
