A tragic incident has occurred at the Jefferson County Jail, resulting in the death of a female inmate. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Shelbi Ervin, sadly passed away on Saturday. Additionally, another female inmate has been charged in connection with her untimely demise.
Investigators have charged Michelle Lee Cormier, 44, with Criminally Negligent Homicide. They claim that she had concealed heroin inside her body while being booked into the jail for a drug charge on October 30th.
Authorities suspect that Cormier supplied heroin to Ervin, which ultimately led to her death from a suspected overdose.
The Texas Rangers have been called upon to conduct an investigation.
