An individual from Arkansas is now in custody for his involvement in the January 6th Capitol riot. According to a recently released statement, he is facing charges related to his actions on that day.
The FBI has arrested David Michael Camden, a 45-year-old resident of Tontitown, Arkansas, as reported by the Department of Justice on Monday.
The Department of Justice has pressed charges against Camden for purportedly assaulting, resisting, or obstructing specific officers and causing civil disorder. Additionally, Camden is facing multiple misdemeanor offenses, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and committing an act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings.
Camden was captured on video on January 6, 2021, as he approached a bike rack barricade that separated police officers from rioters who had gathered on the West Front of Capitol grounds. According to officials, Camden began shouting at the officers and allegedly pushed the bike rack barricade into the line of U.S. Capitol Police Officers, apparently trying to breach the line. To prevent further aggression, the officers deployed a chemical irritant in his direction.
According to officials, at approximately 2 p.m., Camden relocated to another section and discharged a fire extinguisher towards a group of police officers.
After a while, he proceeded towards a media tower that was set up for the impending Inauguration of Joe Biden. As he stood on the tower, a picture was taken of him waving a flag with the inscription “Three Percenters” over the group of rioters. According to court documents, the “Three Percenters” are a far-right anti-government militia in the United States.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section are leading the prosecution for this case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Arkansas provided valuable assistance.
Over the course of 41 months since Jan. 6, 2021, law enforcement officials have charged over 1,450 individuals in almost every state of the U.S. for offenses connected to the U.S. Capitol breach. Among them, over 500 people were charged with the serious crime of assaulting or obstructing law enforcement, which is a felony. The investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
Five individuals in Arkansas, including Camden, have been charged in connection to the riot, while 31 people in Missouri are also facing charges.
