On June 5, a distressing incident took place at a residential complex in Spring Park, resulting in a child neglect charge for the accused. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that the 7-month-old  a baby boy of Ford was found unresponsive due to a drug overdose. You can watch the video of the incident by clicking here.
JSO officers arrived at the scene before the paramedics. In Officer Langston’s bodycam video, Ford told the officer that he witnessed his son eating a cigarette.
Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney from News4JAX emphasized that the officer’s extensive training enabled her to confidently conclude that the baby’s unresponsiveness was not related to the father’s explanation.
Officer Langston wasted no time in springing into action to assist the child. She quickly evaluated his condition and proceeded to administer a sternum rub in order to restore his breathing, suspecting that he may have experienced a drug overdose. In the bodycam footage, she can be heard inquiring about the presence of any narcotics within the apartment.
When the Jacksonville Fire Rescue team arrived at the scene, they administered Narcan, a medication known for its ability to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, to the child. Immediately after, the baby was swiftly transported to Wolfson Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
During the search of the apartment, detectives discovered substances that they suspected to be drugs.
After receiving treatment for a few days, the child was eventually released into the care of a family member.
Ford is currently being held in the Duval County jail on a bond of half a million dollars.
