An 89-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a devastating house fire that occurred in the Sheridan Heights neighborhood of north Montgomery.
Firefighters rushed to the 3000 Block of Alta Road at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Sunday in response to an emergency call. Upon arrival, they were met with a single story home engulfed in smoke and flames, which were emanating from the roof area.
Montgomery Fire/Rescue officials have reported that upon arrival at the scene, their crews were faced with security barriers on the doors and windows of the house. In order to extinguish the fire, firefighters were required to utilize the aerial ladder stream and forcefully gain entry into the home.
Authorities say that firefighters conducted a search of the home and discovered a woman inside. According to a family friend who spoke to WSFA 12 News, the woman has been identified as 89-year-old Jerrie Daniels.
After being rushed to the hospital, she was tragically pronounced dead.
Daniels leaves behind a son. According to her loved ones, she was known for her kind and generous nature. For several years, she organized a holiday dinner for the local workers at the Sheridan Heights Community Center.
There were no other individuals present in the house, and there were no additional casualties among civilians or firefighters. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
