A tragic dog attack in Beaumont claimed the life of 78-year-old Hector Pierna on Monday near the city’s downtown area. Authorities are still investigating the incident, including determining who owns the two pit bulls involved and what may have triggered the attack.
Police received a welfare check call shortly after 11:00 a.m. in the 1400 block of Orange Avenue, where Pierna was found critically injured and bleeding. Despite efforts by officers, EMS, and his son—who rushed to the scene—Pierna succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.
Both dogs have been captured by Beaumont Animal Control as the investigation continues. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the attack and the dogs’ ownership are yet to be released.
