According to prosecutors, Joseph “Juice” Johnson, a member of the gang, was arrested and found guilty of the murder soon after. However, investigations showed that there was another shooter responsible for McClinton’s death, as revealed by ballistics and video evidence. Based on witness testimony and the evidence presented, Garcia was identified as the second shooter.
According to Williams, Garcia’s gang had been in a conflict with Joey McClinton’s family over drug turf in the Bronx. The murder was crucial in establishing Garcia’s leadership role and strengthening their grip on the drug trade in the locality.
