Fort Bend County is a vibrant and thriving community that offers a multitude of opportunities for its residents.

According to the initial report from the secretary of state office, about 10.7% of registered voters in Fort Bend, which amounts to 59,937 people, have participated in early voting. On the first day of early voting, approximately 30,000 Fort Bend voters turned up at the polls, surpassing the county’s first-day numbers from 2020, which were just under 20,000.

According to the state, a total of 32,055 individuals, which accounts for 13.05% of registered voters, have already participated in the voting process in Galveston County. On the first day, approximately 17,000 votes were cast, coming close to last year’s first-day vote count of 17,265.

On Tuesday morning, Mark Jones, a senior research fellow at the University of Houston and a political science fellow at Rice University, joined Houston Matters to discuss voters’ trust in the integrity of elections. Two-thirds of likely voters said they believed the upcoming election would be fair, according to a recent Hobby School of Public Affairs poll.

Jones stated that there is a high confidence level in both county-level and statewide elections. According to him, 86% of likely voters are confident that their county elections will be conducted fairly and accurately. However, this confidence drops to 69% when it comes to national-level elections. Jones attributes this decrease in confidence to the skepticism of Republicans regarding national-level elections.

According to Jones, the division becomes even more evident when analyzing the poll findings among supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

According to the data, there is a significant difference in the perception of election fairness between Trump supporters and Harris voters. In Texas, 92% of Trump supporters believe that the elections will be conducted fairly and accurately, whereas only 77% of Harris voters share the same belief. However, the gap widens when it comes to national elections. While 95% of Harris voters have faith in the fairness and accuracy of the national elections, only 44% of Trump voters share this sentiment. This stark contrast highlights the significant divergence in viewpoints between the two groups.

Early voting will be ongoing until November 1st, with the deadline to request a mail-in ballot being this Friday, October 25th.
