A pickup truck hit a mother and her young son while they were crossing the road in a crosswalk in Toledo, Ohio. The driver of the truck fled the scene after the accident. The woman responsible for the incident is facing multiple charges.
According to detectives, the woman and her son were hit by the driver of a Ram truck at the intersection of Adams Street and North Superior on Saturday morning, despite being in the crosswalk and having the walk sign. Police confirmed that three witnesses saw the incident take place.
According to the police, 23-year-old Jessica Paola-Zaragoza Aguilar, who was identified as the driver, hit the victims while making a left turn from North Superior Street. She did not stop and kept driving, leaving the scene.
According to court documents, when the detectives finally located her on Saturday, she admitted to them that she had fled because she did not possess a driving license and was living in the country without legal documentation.
According to court records, both the mother and son sustained severe injuries, with one of them suffering a concussion and losing a tooth. The doctors have also stated that the boy could experience long-term problems with his leg bone and muscle.
On account of various charges, including assault, which is a first-degree misdemeanor, she is presently incarcerated and scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
