Detainee detained for possession dies after a medical emergency

Following a medical emergency and subsequent cardiac arrest, a 71-year-old detainee at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center passed away.

On July 22, authorities apprehended an individual for possession with intent to distribute. Later, on July 25, the detainee was transported to Prisma Health Hospital.

He had a cardiac arrest on July 27 and despite the hospital staff’s efforts, he passed away in the early hours of July 28.

The investigation into the matter is being carried out by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

A spokesperson from Richland County expressed their sympathy towards the family and loved ones of the detainee during this challenging situation.
