Last week, a man allegedly stabbed several individuals during a disturbance outside of a business in northwest Indianapolis. As a result, he is now facing multiple charges.
27-year-old Estinfil Filsmagre is facing serious charges as prosecutors have filed two counts of attempted murder, a count of aggravated battery, and three counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon against him.
On June 17, Indianapolis Metropolitan police took him into custody when they arrived at 7102 Woodland Dr. around 3:40 a.m. The location is linked to a strip mall and a restaurant/bar named Miami’s Garden.
The incident resulted in injuries to at least nine individuals who suffered from stab wounds or other types of trauma.
IMPD detectives gathered accounts from multiple witnesses, yet identifying the triggering incident that led to the outbreak of violence proved to be a challenging task.
According to court documents, a surveillance video captured an altercation between three men, which escalated into physical pushing and shoving. One of the men threw a punch and shortly after, Filsmagre was observed on the video unfolding what appeared to be a knife and approaching the fight.
As Filsmagre approached a car, a man suddenly ran towards it. Without warning, the man slammed the car door, trapping Filsmagre’s arm. After breaking free, Filsmagre instinctively swung his arm around and accidentally stabbed a bystander who had approached him.
A chaotic scene erupted as several altercations broke out in the parking lot and adjacent grassy area. Amidst the scuffle, a few individuals attempted to intervene and diffuse the situation. Suddenly, a black SUV hit Filsmagre and another person, causing them to fall to the ground. As Filsmagre tried to regain his footing, someone struck him in the back of his head, causing him to stumble.
According to the guard’s statement to the police, she initially thought that Filsmagre had punched her. It wasn’t until someone informed her that she had been hurt that she realized she had been stabbed. She then placed her hand on her chest and discovered it was drenched in blood. The guard also mentioned to the detectives that there were around 50 individuals involved in the altercation outside.
Filsmagre stepped out of the SUV and was immediately pursued by two security guards. When one of the guards confronted him with a gun, he quickly discarded his knife and raised his hands in surrender.
According to the armed guard, Filsmagre reassured him by saying, “Bro, I’m no problem.”
Upon viewing the video, it became apparent that someone had struck Filsmagre, causing him to lose consciousness. A second person proceeded to kick him in the face.
The police showed up just five minutes later.
According to court documents, Filsmagre suffered from severe lacerations to the side of his face and front of his throat, which required him to be intubated. The police also collected his bloodied clothing as evidence.
As of Monday, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office reported that he was still in critical condition.
