Court disbars upstate lawyer after he pleads guilty to scheme targeting military veterans

According to a recent report by FOX Carolina, an Upstate lawyer has been disbarred by the South Carolina Supreme Court for her participation in a nationwide scheme that took advantage of military veterans and elderly investors seeking secure retirement investments. The court released details about the agreement reached regarding the lawyer’s disbarment.

Last year, Candy Kern, who was disbarred, admitted to participating in the scheme and pleaded guilty. As a result, she was sentenced to five years of probation and was required to pay millions of dollars in forfeitures and restitution.

According to officials, Kern has acknowledged the misconduct and agreed to be disbarred from practicing law in South Carolina as part of the settlement.
