Civil and human rights activists are currently holding a press conference at the Brazos County Courthouse on Monday to unveil what they believe are widespread problems within Child Protective Services across the state.
Quanell X, the Chairman of the New Black Panther Nation, and other civil rights organizations, will join Dr. Candice Matthews, the statewide Chair of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats, along with parents who are working to remove their children from the system.
According to Dr. Matthews, there is evidence of child neglect and abuse occurring while in CPS custody throughout the state, as reported by KBTX.
Dr. Matthews stated that in 254 counties, the consensus on CPS and their actions is the same. He emphasized their mission to bring to light the appalling conduct towards children that has been concealed. They aim to uncover malicious acts, deception, and the struggles families endure when fighting for their children’s rights. Dr. Matthews also stressed their intention to expose the broken promises made to families, requiring them to complete classes and fulfill other obligations to regain custody of their children.
One of the parents who will be present at the event is Candice Jones. She proudly shares that she has been clean for 14 months and has been following all the guidelines set by CPS. However, despite her efforts, she still hasn’t been able to regain custody of her two young children.
Jones expressed that she felt like she had been jumping through every hoop in a circus, trying to meet all expectations set for her. However, she shared that she has undergone a complete turnaround in her life, transforming into a different person altogether.
The Brazos County Courthouse will host a press conference on Monday at 11:00 am.
