A remarkable discovery has been made in the case of a woman who was kidnapped as a child from Connecticut back in 1999. After over two decades, she has been found alive in Mexico, bringing hope and closure to her family.
Officials have reported that Andrea Michelle Reyes, who is currently 27 years old, was taken away from her father in New Haven in October 1999 when she was only 23 months old.
The police reported that Rosa Tenorio, the non-custodial parent, had abducted her from her own home.
The New Haven Police Department made an announcement on Tuesday, revealing that Reyes has been discovered alive in Mexico.
Reyes’ father tirelessly continued his search for her throughout the years, and authorities entered her case into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
The kidnapping was investigated by the New Haven Police Department, in collaboration with other agencies.
In 2023, a significant breakthrough occurred when Reyes reached out to her father, leading officials to launch a more in-depth investigation.
The department collaborated with Othram, a renowned forensic laboratory based in Texas. Othram specializes in employing advanced forensic techniques to uncover answers for unsolved murders and disappearances.
The woman who claims to be Reyes has provided a DNA sample, which has been compared to her father’s DNA profile. Othram has confirmed that the DNA match has indeed confirmed that she is the girl who was kidnapped in 1999.
According to investigators, Reyes has been residing in the city of Puebla, Mexico for the past 25 years, and they now believe that she was taken there.
Kristen Mittelman, the chief development officer for Othram, expressed her satisfaction in contributing to the resolution of this case.
“We are committed to finding answers for families, whether it involves identifying human remains, confirming the identity of a suspect in a crime, or, as in this case, verifying the identity of a woman who has been missing for decades,” Mittelman emphasized.
