A man faces charges for allegedly leaving his victim with a traumatic brain injury after a brawl outside a Kansas City pub.
According to Jackson County, Missouri Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, March 26, Teron D. Spagner, 24, of Kansas City, has been charged in connection with a bar brawl that resulted in one guy suffering a traumatic brain injury.
Law enforcement officers were dispatched to an area bar around 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday after the Kansas City Police Department filed a probable cause statement and received reports of a disturbance. When they arrived, they saw a security guard who reported that an argument had broken out among a group of people.
According to the security officer, one of the involved males, later identified as Spagner, allegedly went to his car and returned with a weapon. He proceeded to pistol-whip the victim before the bar’s owner shouted that the police were on their way, prompting them to flee.
Authorities said they received a call from an area hospital around 3 a.m. with news that the fight victim had arrived. Doctors diagnosed him with a cracked skull and possibly a traumatic brain injury.
Around the same time, police claimed they saw the suspect vehicles near E. Truman Rd. and Cleveland Ave. and attempted to pull them over. However, one of the drivers, later identified as Spagner, refused to stop, leading police on a high-speed chase through the city.
According to KCPD, Spagner drove into a post near Independence Ave. and The Paseo, bringing the chase to a stop. He was taken into custody without additional incident. A stolen firearm, believed to be the one used to pistol-whip the victim, was discovered inside the automobile.
Once in jail, authorities reported that Spagner acknowledged the charges against him but denied using a gun to beat the victim, claiming instead that he used brass knuckles. When questioned about their location, Spagner assumed they had fallen into the bushes after getting out of his car.
Consequently, Spagner is confronted with charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal activity, and aggravated escaping a stop. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, with a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. on April 23. No other information has been shared.
