Campbell County units help search for and rescue Ohio man in Kentucky after 2 weeks

Campbell County units assist with search, rescue of Ohio man in Kentucky after 2 weeks

WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. — An Ohio man missing for 14 days in Kentucky has been found, thanks to the efforts of a northern Kentucky agency.

The Wolfe County (KY) Search & Rescue Team announced on Facebook that Scott Hern, 48, was located after 14 days, including 12 days without food or water, near Tower Rock.

Rescue officials expanded their search to areas not previously or thoroughly covered. They discovered from Hern’s diary that he had visited Bell Falls along Highway 715. Although that area had been searched, a decision was made to recheck it more thoroughly. This led to finding a shoe print and evidence of a walking stick in a seldom-traveled area.

Authorities continued up the creek when they heard someone calling for help. The five-person team then worked to locate Hern up a steep embankment below a cliff line.

Kentucky State Police were called in to perform a hoist operation to extract Hern and ensure he received medical care.

Campbell County Search and Rescue was among the agencies that assisted Wolfe County Search and Rescue.
