Law enforcement sources have reported that a suspect has been apprehended following the discovery of a deceased woman from the Bronx in Yonkers on Thursday.
On Sunday, police received a report regarding the disappearance of 26-year-old Pamela Alcantara.
For days, her family had been desperately searching for her, going to great lengths to find any trace of her. They even went as far as putting up missing posters around her neighborhood and outside her apartment building on Morris Avenue in the Bronx.
On Thursday, the discovery was made of Alcantara’s body near the Palmer Road exit on the northbound side of the Saw Mill River Parkway, at the border of Yonkers and the Bronx.
According to law enforcement sources, the ex-boyfriend of Alcantara is currently in custody at the 46th precinct.
According to her family, they are convinced that he is the one who committed this heinous act. They claim that Alcantara was in the midst of relocating, and her ex-boyfriend was the last individual to have seen her.
According to Alcantara’s aunt Isa Peguero, she believes that he discovered that she was planning to move. Peguero revealed that he would place a recorder in both the car and the bedroom to monitor her every move and gather information about her activities.
“Last Thursday, Alcantara’s cousin Naysa Peguero shared a poignant moment with their mother. With a plea in her voice, she said, ‘Mom, pray for me.’ It was a simple yet heartfelt request that captured the weight of the situation.”
Alcantara’s aunt and cousin have already secured a new place for her to live. In fact, they have gone the extra mile by purchasing a car for her, allowing her to leave the apartment she used to share with her ex-boyfriend on Morris Avenue.
As she stepped into the building’s elevator late at night on Sunday, surveillance footage captured her conversing with her mother over the phone. Curiously, there is no footage of her exiting the elevator afterwards.
She never managed to attend church on Sunday.
Naysa Peguero revealed that her daily routine primarily consisted of attending church, going home, conversing with her mother, and socializing exclusively with friends from her religious community. This limited her interactions to the people she encountered at work as well.
Alcantara’s family reported that they paid a visit to the apartment on Monday. They found the place to be generally tidy, with the exception of some noticeable indications near their bed that suggested an argument and a physical altercation had taken place.
After a solid three years together, Alcantara decided to call it quits.
Naysa Peguero informed her mother that she had examined the Facebook profile of the person in question. According to Naysa, the individual had no pictures on their profile, except for the profile picture. Naysa added that the person was restricted from uploading any additional pictures.
No charges have been filed by the police and no arrests have been made thus far.
The NYPD is currently conducting an investigation while the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner works on determining the cause of death.
A small candlelight vigil has been set up outside the victim’s building in the Bronx.
The unit upstairs is currently sealed off by the NYPD, who are patiently waiting for a warrant to enter.
