Early Thursday morning, Bay City police were called to Baytown Family Neighborhood for a reported altercation. Officers arrived to de-escalate the situation involving a 26-year-old man. After calming him down, they transported him to a nearby store, bought him cigars, and sent him on his way.
Tragically, about an hour later, the man returned to the neighborhood, where he suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Witnesses reported that a teenager fired the shot with a small-caliber rifle equipped with a laser sight. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting and are working to identify the teen involved.
