Arrest made with the help of witnesses after Indianapolis house party results in boy’s death

In 2023, police were informed by a homeowner that the gathering was only intended for a small group of friends.

According to several individuals interviewed by the police, they all recounted a similar experience: they were present at the house party located near 21st Street and Emerson Avenue, and heard a commotion which was followed by gunshots, resulting in people fleeing the premises.

Tragically, a 15-year-old boy named Edwin Simon-Osorio lost his life while attempting to intervene in an argument. He was fatally shot.

A teenager is now facing charges as an adult for the killing that occurred almost seven months ago when the shooting erupted.

According to court records, Alan Peregrino has been charged with murder in the shooting by Marion County prosecutors. It is worth noting that he was just 16 years old at the time of the killing.

Ana Osorio, the sister of Edwin Simon-Osorio, expressed gratitude that justice had been served. She mentioned that her family often talks about and remembers Edwin, and that he is always in their thoughts.

What happened the night Edwin Simon-Osorio was killed

According to the charging affidavit, the events that led to the shooting on that tumultuous night have been revealed, along with details on how the police made an arrest in the case.

As the shooting was being handled by the police, they received information about a carjacking near the location of the party on East 20th Place. Detectives investigating the robbery discovered Peregrino and apprehended him for his involvement in the carjacking.

Upon the arrival of additional detectives, it became clear based on charging documents that Peregrino and his accomplices had recently departed from a nearby house party prior to the carjacking incident. According to a nearby resident, the commotion began with a loud crash outside their home. Upon investigation, they observed several young males congregating near two vehicles, one of which had collided with their parked car.

According to police, Peregrino was seen brandishing a handgun and waving it around. He was later identified as the male suspect involved in the incident.

According to the affidavit, the male admitted to possessing a gun with a “switch” and expressed his reluctance to use it on the woman. However, the resident who reported the incident informed the authorities that the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

The authorities found a Glock 17 9mm equipped with a green laser sight and an extended magazine.

Instagram video and witnesses help detectives

As the investigation into the party unfolds, authorities are diligently conducting interviews with those who were in attendance. In addition, an Instagram video has surfaced, which portrays two males carrying guns. This video is being closely analyzed as law enforcement works to gather as much information as possible.

Witnesses reported seeing Peregrino, who was wearing a dark blue puffer coat, pointing guns at people while he rapped, according to court records. They were able to identify him as one of the males with guns present at the scene.

According to the witnesses, Simon-Osorio approached Peregrino and advised him to stow the firearms. The police were informed about this interaction.

During the party, an argument broke out between the two individuals, as reported by a witness to the police. The tension escalated quickly, causing the pair to leave the party with their girlfriend. Shortly after, gunshots were heard, and they received a call notifying them of the tragic death of someone named “Edwin.”

Ana Osorio expressed her heartbreak over losing her brother to gun violence, stating that he had numerous aspirations for their mother and his siblings that he wanted to fulfill. However, his life was cut short, and now they must continue without him.

According to the affidavit, investigators received information about a potential match between the fired cartridge casing found at the scene and the Glock recovered from Peregrino during his carjacking arrest, approximately two months after the shooting.

The handgun used by Peregrino was found to have fired all of the 9mm casings at the shooting scene, according to forensic specialists.

At the age of 17, Peregrino made his initial court appearance in Marion Superior Court on Wednesday. As of now, there is no information on if Peregrino has an attorney representing him.

Simon-Osorio, a high school student and soccer player, attended Lawrence North High School.
