Arrest made in the shooting death of 17-year-old girl allegedly involved in a relationship with a 21-year-old in E. Harris County

In Harris County, Texas, law enforcement authorities have apprehended a 21-year-old man who stands accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old girl. The suspect was reportedly in a dating relationship with the victim, residing in the Baytown area.

Tomas Bautista is currently being held in the Harris County Jail on charges of murder.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place in the early hours of Sunday morning on Richards Street in the 7800 block.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that upon receiving the call, deputies promptly arrived at the scene where they discovered the 17-year-old victim. The victim had sustained gunshot wounds, while the alleged shooter, identified as Bautista, had already fled the area.

Tragically, the teenager lost their life at the accident site.

Bautista was later detained when he returned to the scene, as revealed by Gonzalez. Further investigation uncovered that the two individuals were involved in a dating relationship.

Gonzalez emphasized the devastating impact of this violent incident, stating that it not only claimed a life but also shattered a family. She highlighted the alarming prevalence of dating violence among teenagers and emphasized the potentially fatal outcomes it can have.

Gonzalez called for greater efforts in educating young people to identify and address abusive behavior in its early stages.
