A man from Midwest City, Oklahoma is now facing criminal charges after confessing to shooting at a vehicle that collided with his parked car and attempted to flee, according to court documents.
On November 6, an incident took place in a parking lot of a liquor store on Douglas Boulevard. In an interview with News 4, the store manager, who requested to remain anonymous along with the business, provided further details about the incident.
As the manager explained, a regrettable incident occurred in the parking lot when customers were leaving after purchasing a few items. Another vehicle collided with their car.
According to the manager, he heard a loud crash and saw Karon Willis and another person hastily leaving the store. He provided us with surveillance footage, which captured the sound of a single gunshot, although he believes there were multiple shots fired. In the video, a female voice can be heard questioning why someone would commit such an act and urging others to retrieve the cameras and contact the police.
The manager positively identified Willis as the person who fired the shots.
According to the manager, the individual proceeded to the trunk of his car, retrieved a firearm, and began firing indiscriminately on Douglas Boulevard.
According to court documents, Willis confessed to firing shots at the vehicle that he claims collided with his own. The vehicle in question contained both a driver and a passenger, and purportedly fled the scene.
According to a report by a sergeant from the Midwest City Police, the driver and passenger of the vehicle were fortunate to have escaped unharmed. However, their vehicle sustained damage in the form of a bullet hole.
The manager’s initial thought was to call the police and ensure the safety of any customers in the vicinity.
The store manager was ready for any situation in case Willis attempted to enter the store again with the weapon. However, that scenario did not unfold.
According to court documents, Willis dialed 911 to report a hit and run and provided an explanation of the incident to the officers. He purportedly confessed to the officers that the hit-and-run occurred and that he had fired shots at the second vehicle as it fled the scene.
Willis was taken into custody and processed at the Midwest City Police Department jail before being transferred to the Oklahoma County Jail.
According to News 4, jail administrators have confirmed that he has posted bond. However, when News 4 employees visited his address to seek his perspective on the story, they were unable to get a response as no one answered the door.
Willis is being charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The liquor store manager expressed his disappointment at witnessing what Willis had done firsthand.
The manager firmly stated that they would not have reacted in the same manner in a situation like that. They believed that the individuals involved had definitely overreacted.
