Great news out of Columbus, Ohio! The child who was at the center of an Amber Alert has been rescued and is safe.
Early Friday morning, a child who is only four years old was reported missing in the Holly Hill neighborhood of west Columbus specifically in the Wedgewood Drive and Eakin Road area. Fortunately, the child was found safe and sound in the 600 block of Dexter Avenue, which is less than a mile away from the Wedgewood Apartments.
According to the Amber Alert text message, the suspects involved in the case are the 4-year-old’s mother and a friend. Both adults have been charged with misdemeanor criminal charges.
According to Sgt. James Fuqua, the suspects took the child away in a vehicle. However, they called the police and turned themselves in at around 11:15 a.m.
According to Fuqua, the child’s father notified the police between the hours of 3 and 5 a.m. He claimed that the mother had been involved in previous domestic abuse incidents with their son, which he had not reported earlier. This information raised concerns about the safety of the child, prompting the authorities to issue an Amber Alert.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the police, the father alleged that the mother had assaulted him at 3:49 a.m. on Friday morning. The accusation was supported by a witness.
Columbus police sent out the first alert a little after 9 a.m. However, due to outages with Microsoft and CrowdStrike, the state was unable to issue an Amber Alert for the child. Nevertheless, the statewide alert was officially released at 10 a.m.
According to an update by Fuqua at 11 a.m., officers were investigating several leads that had been provided through tips.
