BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is issuing a warning to drivers about the importance of safe driving practices when encountering deer. It is crucial to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid any potential accidents involving these animals.
Over the past few days, there have been several accidents involving deer and drivers, according to troopers.
According to Trooper Reginal King, it is quite common for ALEA to attend to these traffic accidents, particularly during this time of year.
Alabama is currently experiencing deer season, during which there is a substantial population of deer.
Troopers emphasize the importance of wearing a seat belt, regardless of the distance traveled. It is crucial to remain cautious as there is an increased likelihood of encountering deer along the roadside during this period.
Deer sightings are most common during the early morning and evening hours, according to troopers. These animals are known to quickly dash across roads, posing a potential hazard to drivers.
To ensure safety on the road, it is essential to adopt a cautious approach by adhering to speed limits, paying close attention, and avoiding rushing.
“Trooper King emphasized the importance of being aware and minimizing distractions both inside and outside the vehicle as a way to reduce the chances of being involved in a traffic crash with a deer.”
According to troopers, it is advised not to swerve in order to avoid hitting a deer. This action can potentially lead to losing control of the vehicle and ultimately result in a more severe accident.
