A young adult from Enterprise is currently on a mission to walk across Alabama in support of missionaries. The journey takes place in New West, Alabama.
At just 17 years old, Grason Wallace has already proven himself to be a true fighter. Despite facing two devastating accidents at a young age, there was doubt as to whether he would ever be able to walk again.
According to Wallace, the 218-mile journey is definitely worth it.
According to Wallace, he believed that God was instructing him to carry out the action, stating, “I really thought God was telling me to do it.” He also expressed his intention to gather as much money as possible.
Wallace attends the First Assembly of God in Enterprise.
With the aim of raising funds for Speed the Light, an organization that supports missions across the globe, he is currently walking.
“I’m thrilled to be able to do it and give back to those who have sacrificed so much,” she exclaimed.
Wallace will be embarking on a journey alongside missionary Brad Sasser and Tyler Sawyer, his student leader.
In reflecting on the task at hand, Sawyer expressed, “I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but if it’s the path that God has set before us, we’re committed to seeing it through.”
Starting from the outskirts of Alabama, precisely from Silas, their expedition sets forth towards Columbia. The route will traverse through Houston County, following the meandering course of the Chattahoochee River.
As a youth pastor, you couldn’t have a bigger heart,” Sawyer commented. Initially, I had my doubts, but he reassured me with his unwavering faith, saying, “God is faithful, and I am confident that he will grant us the strength to see it through.”
Although Wallace’s life journey had its fair share of challenges, it all started with some initial difficulties.
“When he was just two years old, he fell off the porch,” recalled his mother, DeAnn Wallace. “The fall resulted in multiple injuries including broken arms, a fractured skull, a broken nose, and damage to the dura tissue responsible for protecting the spinal fluid around the brain.”
DeAnn stated that when he was three years old, he suffered severe injuries in a car accident.
DeAnn shared that her husband has undergone 14 surgeries in total. During one of these surgeries, a nerve was hit which resulted in him being unable to walk properly. As a result, he had to re-learn how to walk in order to attend therapy sessions as he was dragging his left leg.
He has made significant progress and achieved considerable success over time.
Currently, he is covering a distance of over 200 miles on foot. Undoubtedly, he possesses exceptional running abilities.
It wasn’t an easy journey for him, but now he effortlessly runs cross-country and has his sights set on walking across the state. Seeing his progress, I can tell that he’s giving thanks to God. It’s heartening to witness his success, which is undoubtedly a result of divine intervention.
Their goal is to shine a beacon of positivity throughout the entirety of the seven-day journey.
According to Sawyer, nothing is impossible with the help of God, regardless of how challenging or monumental the situation may appear. He stated, “We’re striving to demonstrate that through God, anything can be accomplished.”
Grason believes that his ability to walk 218 miles is a gift from God, which serves as a testament to the fact that God can accomplish anything. As he puts it, he can serve as living proof that God has the power to heal anyone in need.
