As temperatures rise, some Alabamians may worry about how the summer heat will affect their power bills. Alabama Power offers payment assistance programs for customers during the summer months.
Emergency cooling assists customers with their electricity utility bills from June through October. The program is available for low-income households facing health emergencies or other difficult circumstances.
Additionally, the ABC Trust’s Emergency Assistance Programs help meet needs for energy, rent, mortgage, and food. Established by Alabama Power, these programs are administered by Community Action Agencies across the state.
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is available every year from November to May to help households pay for heating and cooling. Discounts are available for customers receiving Supplemental Security Income or Medicaid for Low-Income Families.
