Alabama native drowned in Hawaii; family gathers funds to bring his body home

A young man from Alabama, who fondly called himself “Ocean” and “Wavy” due to his passion for the water, tragically drowned in Hawaii on Sunday. As a result, his family is now raising funds to bring his body back home to Mobile.

LaTonya Sigler, who set up a GoFundMe page for her brother, Octavian Sigler, reported that he passed away at the age of 26 due to drowning on Sunday. Although he was originally from Alabama, Octavian was residing in Hawaii at the time of his tragic death.

Octavian Sigler was discovered deceased in the water near Honolulu by a passerby, as reported by his sister.

According to LaTonya Sigler, he relocated to Oahu in 2022 as reported by Hawaii News Now.

According to the outlet, she described him as someone who exuded positive energy upon entering the room. His bubbly and outgoing personality made him approachable, and those who knew him would attest to his loving and sweet nature.

According to her, he had a fondness for water and would often refer to himself as ‘Ocean’ or ‘Wavy’. She explained that this was simply a reflection of his personality.

Sigler set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her brother’s body to be transported to Mobile, his birthplace and hometown, where a “homegoing celebration” could be held in his honor.

Surpassing its goal of $10,000, the crowdfunding effort was successful.
