Authorities in Mississippi apprehended a man from Alabama on Thursday morning following allegations that he had broken into the residence of an elderly lady and tried to sexually assault her. Fortunately, a vigilant neighbor heard the victim’s cries for help and intervened.
The December 2023 Mobile County Grand Jury indicted Elvis Dewayne Henderson for charges including Attempted Rape, Burglary 2nd, Robbery 3rd, and Elder Abuse 2nd.
The victim’s distress caught the attention of a nearby neighbor who quickly came to her rescue and intervened, escorting Henderson away from the premises.
According to Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood, such violent acts against the most vulnerable members of our society will not be accepted. He asserts that Mr. Henderson will be prosecuted to the maximum extent allowed by law.
The court granted Henderson a bond of $30,000 for the Attempted Rape 1st charge, $20,000 for the Burglary 2nd charge, $10,000 for the Robbery 3rd charge, and $20,000 for the Elder Abuse charge.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Mobile Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals are working together with the DA Task Force to promptly arrest defendants who have been secretly indicted, ensuring that their prosecution in court starts much earlier than previously possible.
