A man from Upshur County received a life sentence for sexually assaulting two children, aged 10 and 13, in Pritchett.
The trial began on Tuesday, as stated in a press release. The jury learned that one of the children had been adopted after being removed from her biological parents due to neglect and drug use. The abuse began two years later when her grandfather exposed her to pornography and then mimicked what she saw. This information was provided by the Upshur County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
In November 2023, the child’s mother asked her about the abuse after hearing concerning remarks from her own father. The child confirmed the abuse. When Allen Ray Reppond was arrested, a 13-year-old neighbor was also questioned about inappropriate contact. She reportedly informed her mother about the incident.
According to reports, it took the jury less than 20 minutes to decide on the harshest punishment: one life sentence and two 20-year sentences for indecency with a child.
The district attorney’s office expressed gratitude to the jury for imposing the maximum sentence possible.
The office stated, “Their verdict gives us peace of mind that the innocent will be protected and those who sexually abuse children will be punished.”
