Frederick Anthony Forbes, a 52-year-old man from Georgia, has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for his involvement in conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. The United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, Jason R. Coody, announced the sentence.

During the trial, it was uncovered that Forbes, who had a previous conviction for cocaine trafficking in 1994, was involved in a long-term plot with other individuals to distribute cocaine. The members of the conspiracy utilized coded language and counter-surveillance tactics to avoid detection and utilized a commercial trucking business as a front for their drug trafficking activities.
Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration Miami Field Division, Deanne Reuter, emphasized the detrimental effects of drug trafficking on communities. She specifically called out drug distributors, like Mr. Forbes, for prioritizing their profits over the lives of citizens. The investigation serves as a testament to the DEA’s dedication to collaborating with law enforcement agencies to hold those who endanger the safety and well-being of Florida communities responsible for their actions.
Extensive Evidence and Seizures
Through testimony, surveillance, wiretap intercepts, and the seizure of two kilograms of powder cocaine from Forbes in September 2022, the investigation confirmed that Forbes organized the purchase, delivery, and re-sale of cocaine. As a supplier for dealers in the Northern District of Florida and other areas, he played a key role in the coordination of the drug trade.
Forbes and his accomplices were found to be in possession of approximately four kilograms of powder cocaine during the investigation. Additionally, law enforcement officials seized a commercial tractor-trailer that Forbes used to transport drugs. As a result of the investigation, two of Forbes’ associates were indicted and convicted for their role in the illegal drug operation.
Prosecution and Sentencing
After serving his sentence, Forbes will be under the supervision of authorities for 10 years to ensure that he does not engage in any unlawful activities.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, in collaboration with the Gainesville Police Department, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Highway Patrol, conducted an investigation into the case. Assistant United States Attorney David Byron was responsible for prosecuting the case.
