On Tuesday, New York State Police said that a Barnevald man in their custody had died.
According to State Police, at about 11:30 p.m. on March 24, troopers responded to a 911 call reporting a person “behaving erratically” at a residence on Sand Ridge Road in the Town of Barnevald.
Police identified the individual as Matthew A. Brown, 30. Police say troopers attempted to approach him, but Brown “lunged” for the trooper’s holstered handgun. He was handcuffed and confined without further incident.
According to authorities, Brown went unresponsive as troopers were waiting for EMS to arrive for an evaluation. Troopers, a deputy from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, and an EMS worker performed life-saving measures, but Brown was declared dead.
The New York Attorney General’s Office is investigating the death.
The inquiry into this problem is ongoing.
