A big Ohio company is shifting its jobs overseas

A major Ohio company is moving its jobs overseas

In Ohio, there’s some significant news to report. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is shaking things up by moving 175 jobs from its headquarters in Akron to a new location in Costa Rica. This change is a part of their “Goodyear Forward” transformation plan and will happen in early 2025.

Goodyear has confirmed that the transition will result in some of its employees based in Akron being laid off. However, the exact number of workers who will be affected has not been disclosed. It is important to note that this will not affect union employees.

In May, President Mark Stewart revealed that Goodyear has already reduced 135 positions in the U.S. and Latin America. Unfortunately, this is not the end of it. Earlier this year, the company also made the difficult decision to close its Malaysia plant, leaving approximately 550 employees without work. In addition, Goodyear announced in September that it plans to cut around 1,200 positions in its Europe, Middle East, and Africa division.

The future of American jobs is a growing concern, given the significant number of job relocations and cuts happening on a large scale. The constant flow of layoffs and overseas job relocations is causing people to raise questions about the stability of the job market within the country.
