An elderly man is currently in serious condition at a hospital outside of his home state after being struck and trapped underneath a vehicle on Monday night, according to the Texarkana Police Department.
A southbound car struck a 69-year-old man who was attempting to cross Robinson Road around 8 p.m. The man, who was pushing a shopping cart at the time, walked into the path of the oncoming vehicle, according to the department.
Texarkana officials said that after the crash, the driver, who was 30 years old, promptly brought the car to a halt. However, by that time, the man was already trapped underneath the vehicle.
Texarkana firefighters successfully rescued a 69-year-old man by using a jack to lift the car off him. Following the incident, the man was promptly hospitalized and later airlifted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. As of Tuesday at noon, he remains in serious condition.
