Multiple counties in South Carolina are experiencing power outages, leaving thousands of Aiken Electric Cooperative customers without electricity.
Aiken, Saluda, and Edgefield counties are experiencing power outages, as confirmed by a representative from Aiken Electric Cooperative.
According to Aiken Electric Cooperative, the reason behind the power outage is a transmission outage that originated from Santee Cooper. It caused a brush fire, resulting in a widespread power outage due to a downed transmission line.
As of 4:45 pm, the number of customers without power was reported to be over 6,000. However, as of 4:58 pm, the latest update indicates that only half that number remain without power.
