A tragic crash in Kaufman County claimed the lives of four people overnight in Mesquite, Texas.
The tragic accident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Interstate 20 near FM 741 in Mesquite.
According to the police, an SUV had stopped on the side of the interstate due to a flat tire.
Four individuals were assisting in changing the tire outside the vehicle when they were struck by another driver.
The driver, Basilio Mares Ortiz, 35, veered off the road and ended up in a ditch.
Four people in the disabled SUV tragically lost their lives at the scene.
The individuals involved in the incident have been identified as Arturo Martinez Gonzalez, aged 47, Anthony Hernandez, aged 19, Mario Guajardo De La Paz, aged 19, and a 15-year-old male, all from Terrell.
Ortiz was taken into custody by the police and accused of four counts of intoxication manslaughter.
